Im new to this forum, but I have been producing music with audacity for about 2 years now, with almost religous devotion... I have figured out just about everything, save for one effect that has eluded me, or learning nyquest to program my own effect... Perhaps someone can help?

The effect I am after is one heard on an old Skinny Puppy song, called "Addiction". (you don't have to like the music, Im just talking about the effect...) Basicaly, it is a rythmic silece inserted into an audio stream, so that it cuts in and out in between beats. Thus far, I have done it manualy, with some success, but I was hoping for a better method, easier, maybe. In the track, they use a voice, and lop it to become part of the beat, with the silence in between... Any thoughts?

I got the :30 from iTunes. I hear a highly synthesized drum track with filtered voices drifting in and out. Processed violins.

There is one segment of vocal where the singer is singing in time with the music. I guess that could be done in post with sloppy settings on a Vocorder or equivalent.

I don't know that I hear anything out of the ordinary. Maybe I'm just listening to the wrong segment. It's over 6 minutes long.

like I said, Im just looking for that effect, and sorry to subject you to that, im guessing you found it tasteless. But yeah, the part Im talking about is at the end. Its like, a predetermined length of silence, followed by a set length of the stream. They start it with the words "absorbed with clarity" its like, "cl_a_ri_t_y"... I dont know, maybe they have a short in the mic cable and just wiggle it back and forth or something...

That's the effect you can get with a keyed processor or multiplier. Also Known As a Vocorder. Depending on which direction you go, you can process your voice to sound like your guitar, or your guitar to sound like your voice. Sloppy (broad) settings can give you a voice that only appears during bass notes. Without digging, I don't know if there's anything like that available.
