Recording Sounds Echo

Post by Tazman007 » Sat Jan 26, 2008 11:10 pm

After recording and listening to the playback it sounds like the lead vocals are in the background and the backup vocals are now the lead. Don't know how this could happen. This is before I do any cleaning, noise removal, etc. This has happened on the last 3 records.

I am using Audacity 1.2.6 with Win XP and then transferring to iTunes and then converting to AAC and then downloading to iPod. Hooked up straight from the USB turntable to PC. This is all happening now right after I record.

Also the instruments are louder than the vocals.

It sounds like the polarity is switched on one of the channels. This can happen if the turntable is wired wrong, or the cartridge is wired wrong.

You can fix what you've already recorded by doing the following within Audacity:
1) Click on the track name -> split stereo track.
2) Highlight only one of the tracks -> effects -> invert.
3) Click on the track name for the track at the top of the screen -> make stereo track.

Does that fix it? Following those instructions will invert one of the stereo channels, but leave the other alone. If that fixes it, then you've got one channel wired wrong. You can probably fix it by swapping wires on the cartridge.
