Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

trouble with data folder/aup files

Post by micksteraus » Tue Mar 23, 2010 3:05 am

I just returned from several conferences. My sound techs (new ones) have recorded the last several weeks of sermons in v 1.2.3. The problem is that the audio data is in a folder 21.03.10 Ps Sean Jesus is Lord.wav_data. This folder is 580 MB of data.

There is an aup file called 21.03.10 Ps Sean Jesus is Lord.aup but the size is only 85K. I do not know how to get this recording and the previous two weeks of sermons brought properly back into a .wav file or into a project and save as other types of audio media.

Please advise

Sean

click on the aup to open it
(Or make a shortcut to audacity on the desktop then drag and drop the aup onto the icon if you have not associated the files in windoze)
it will bring in the associated data files as an audio track
export as a wav 44100/16

Did you follow that? The AUP file is a Project Manager. It's not a sound file. It's job is to put all the stuff in the _data folder back together into a show. They're not sound files, either although you can play pieces of them if you try hard.

After you get the whole show playing on the timeline, File > Export As WAV to get a sound file.

You should break up the show into hour-long segments so you don't run into file size issues. Drag Select the first hour and Export Selected.

This all may fall flat if you moved the files and folders from the original computer. Audacity doesn't like that very much -- although the basic show should open if the _data folder and the AUP file are in the same folder or directory.

1.2.3 is now so ancient that Noah was probably using it ...

If you wish to stay on 1.2 you should really upgrade to 1.2.6 - but that is pretty old now and the developers are no longer fixing bugs in it.

In spite of the labelling the 1.3.11 Beta is pretty stable now and 1.3 and on many modern computing platforms is much more stable than the the officially "stable" 1.2.6

You can get the updates from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Got it gents...thanks. Downloaded the Beta also and it is much better. I think what happened, was my experienced tech had recorded in a newer version and them my new techs tried to open it with an older one he found elsewhere. All is great now.

Just note that you can open 1.2.x projects in 1.3, but not the other way around - and if you edit a 1.2 project in 1.3 and save it, it then becomes a 1.3 project.

If you want true portability - export a WAV file of the project.

so i found out!! but you can go in and edit the location to fix it. just tell it where the data file is now located.

but for win98 the last version was back a ways and none of the newer ones claim win98se capability. so watch out for the opsys gotcha if you are not using xp.
