Audacity crashes when trying to open

When I went to launch Audacity, it crashes instantly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Audacity, same thing. I tried uninstalling, restarting, and installing Audacity, still doesn't work. I tried looking in my Application Data folder and don't even see an Audacity folder, was thinking maybe i needed to delete that.

My computer is XP SP3. Any ideas how I can get this going. The error events i get are below.

Is it that different from 1.2's latest that it might work? Is this a common problem that's fixed in 1.3.11 ?

A little more info. I was remote desktop'd to the machine when it would crash instantly. But now when I VNC to the machine, so essentially i'm logging in at the console, it works fine.

Is that fixed in 1.3?

<<<Is that fixed in 1.3?>>>

It's not a problem of fixed or broken. Remote Operation is a feature. Audacity is a very simple program and it likes running on really simple computers -- generally one computer.

You can install 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine safely as long as you only use one at a time. That "Stable" and "Unstable" thing hasn't been true in a long time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

I was remote desktop'd to an XP PC, which only allows one user to be logged into it at one time. So only one copy of Audacity was running at that time, unless it runs as a service in the background or something. What do you think kozikowski?

I think there are extra command and response steps needed during remote login that aren't there when you're sitting in front of the computer. Audacity is easily confused.

Of course, if you wanted to develop a secure, stable remote login for Audacity, the developers would be glad to have you.

If I only knew how to do that, I would try to help, but its probably better to leave it to the experts! :D

You never said the magic words: "I tried Audacity 1.3.11."

True, I did not try 1.3 yet. When you said how 1.2 and 1.3 are simplistic, single user, and the like, and suggested I write code to make it work via remote desktop, I assumed you meant 1.3 would have the problem. I'll have to give it a shot when time allows.
