Development in Audacity 1.2 halted somewhere during the Harding administration. Only Audacity 1.3 has the latest drivers, code, and modules. You can install 1.2 and 1.3 safely as long as you only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

Remember in about the second message someone told you to do that?

Right, someone told me to try 1.3 to resolve my original problem of it not opening, which I found was more self induced by using remote desktop. I sense a negative attitude, sorry for getting you worked up. I'm good with 1.2 for now since it does work, just not through remote desktop which I was just using from a support standpoint.
Good to know the history of development though, I thought it said 1.3 was beta still, which is why I was staying with 1.2, which works as I need it too. So I'm all set here

Trust me, "Beta" and "Unstable" were not our idea. If, for example, you're on a New Mac, you would find that "Stable" Audacity will not run at all.

Sorry to appear curt. It cranks our knickers when we're not allowed to fix something this easy.

Yeah, it'd do the same to me too, no hard feelings. Hope you get to change the lingo around soon.

You're not the only one :)
At least it now says that that Audacity 1.3.11 is the officially recommended version for Vista and Windows 7 ("best version for Windows 7 and Vista")
