Click the first track, shift-click the second?

thanks I tried that but it doesn't really work. it highlights both tracks but when you time shift it, it only time shifts one at a time. oh well I guess I'll just do it one by one using the mouse.

I didn't catch that you're in Audacity 1.2. Download and install 1.3.11. You can install both safely, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.

Audacity 1.3.11 is very nearly a different program. It's had all the recent development and no it's not "unstable."

Modern Macs, for example, no longer support Audacity 1.2 at all.
