marking in and out points???

Hi Gang: new user...I am frustrated as I am unable to easily mark in and out points to delete...I need to cut a very particular section of music...every time I pause (using the spacebar) the cursor above the timeline (green triangle) disappears making it hard to find where I want to start or end the cut...is there an easy way to do this- marking in and out points with the keyboard (with the "i" and "o" keys)? ...also I noticed a digital counter at the bottom left of the screen but it does move with the music only...any and all help is appreciated...using 1.2.6...thanks, micky

No "I" and "O" I've ever found. Audio editors tend not to have those--or believe they don't need them. Video editors know how insanely handy they can be.

If you're deleting a selection in the middle of a performance, you can delete after the in point and before the out point. Then magnify the result and do it again. About the third pass, you will be down to a couple of seconds of wrong audio and you should be able to follow the waveforms to figure out where the final deletion should be. If the edit doesn't fit on one screen, generally, you can't execute it easily.

No, the time number doesn't follow you during play. I use 1.2.x Audacity for capture of live performances and gross editing chores. The fine stuff or rapid editing is done in Cool Edit (which was very not free).

The consolation is we are using the Windows 98 of editors. Version 1.4.x will be out shortly and addresses a lot of these problems--but probably not the I/O one. You can also try out 1.3.x. That version will install right along with 1.2.x, but you can't run them both at the same time.

You can use [Ctrl]+M to set labels while a track is playing (or paused), which may help you to see which region to select.

The selection region is the ready-made in an out (left edge in, right edge out). Click and drag to make the selection. SHIFT + left or right arrow to expand the region, CTRL + SHIFT + left or right to contract the region. Shortcut "B" plays from/to the mouse cursor if it's inside the region.
