Trouble converting tape to mp3

I recently installed a Technical Pro usb turntable and the accompanying Audacity software.

Previously, I have used Audacity to convert audio tape to mp3 by plugging the speaker output from my tape deck into the line-in on my computer. I can still play and hear the tape feed through the computer speakers but, Audacity will not record.

I have tried different setting in Audacity and the "Sounds and Audio Devices" from Control Panel. Either I have not gotten the right combination or something change when I installed the turntable.

My computer is an HP pc, Windows XP Home.

Any suggestions?

When you plug in a USB audio device, Windows has a habit of passing the entire sound system over to it. We can help you to configure Windows and Audacity to get round this problem, but the easiest thing to try is just unplugging the turntable and rebooting the computer - that should put everything back to normal.

Thank you. That did the trick.
