hello,
after some extensive searching and reading, the impression im getting here is that audacity wont work with my m-audio fast track ultra external soundcard?
originally, i downloaded the beta version. i wanted to record streaming audio from youtube videos and DVD's. It was working, but i couldnt figure out why the sound quality was so horrible...then i figured out that i was recording from my webcam by default.
Well, i tried just about every setting and preference, this and that. So i installed the stable version after finding topics about my soundcard that said the beta version wont support multi channels, or something like that. So, ive tried to change the channel numbers. 2 channels is the only one that doesnt give me error message, but it still doesnt record.
ive also fiddled with the soundcard settings in it control panel, still nada....

not sure but
my impression is that it wont work because the drivers are not the type audacity supports
didnt it come with software to do recording
save the file and then
edit with audacity

dont know cant say about ableton
it is supposed to be a looper whatever that *is*
i got two external interfaces and made sure that they were not usin gableton or pro tools limited edition
look at getting a box that comes with sonar or cubase
and see if they can do what you want

ok i finally figured it out thanks to someone on another board.
The 1/4" TRS/TS plug that you speakers are connected to the fast track, unplug them and connect them to the input of the fast track, then use headphones to hear the sound.....works perfect in audacity now.
so to make it simple...outputs 1 and 2 that go to your speakers, connect them to inputs 1 and 2 on the fast track...bypassing the speakers completely. on the fast track control panel, under the tab "monitor 1/2" in the hardware inputs section, the green bars should be showing a signal now.
Now audacity will record. When you are done doing whatever you need to record, unplug the speaker wires from the inputs on fast track, and plug them back into the speakers.
