getting frustrated

How do i post a audacity clipping to a website such as blogger? Can I even do it. I also tried saving my file as something other than audacity only and i can't find the file. I dont know where audacity is putting after I save it!

Audacity will not "save" a sound file. It only saves its own internal Projects which nobody else can open.

To get a postable sound file you have to use File > Export. Most sound postings on the internet have to be compressed and that usually means MP3. Did you install the "lame" software package? If that makes no sense, then we'll take it you didn't.

Will Audacity and Windows (mostly Windows) let you export a sound file to your desktop? Record or generate a short sound and export it as Test. Audacity should produce a sound file called Test.wav, but you won't actually see that because Windows likes to hide parts of the file name from you. So you might see a Windows Media file called "Test." Don't use any punctuation marks in the name. Call it Test.

Can you get it that far?

i have head about the lame thing but i hadn't looked at it yet. Yes i was trying to import it thats what i had met when i saved it....so what happened to my file after i exported? and i don't have a clue what test thing your talking about. Im just glad this was not a homework assignment or I would probably be sol right now and be getting an f because I can't find my file after i did the file import thing or atleast i tried to. Im reconsidering using this product.

you sound like you would be happier using pro tools or cubase

well i would rather this to of worked out b/c its free. i cant afford the other products. i just need to spend some more time reading the users manual. i thought i undertsood how to use it. it does have buttons and whistles that i don't need

The price is unbeatable (and it's also a really nice program to use - much simpler than many of the alternatives, but there is still a "learning curve").

I would definitely recommend upgrading to Audacity 1.3.11. It has a few more bells and whistles for you to ignore, but it is no harder to use than 1.2.6 - in many ways it is easier to use (it is also generally more stable, better quality, and has better support documentation). You do not need to uninstall Audacity 1.2.6 before installing 1.3.11 - they can happily live side by side, though you can't run them simultaneously and Audacity 1.2.x cannot open projects saved by Audacity 1.3

Audacity Saves "Audacity Projects" (that can only be opened in Audacity).
Audacity can Export audio files (which can be played in other programs).

Audacity can Export several different file types, but unfortunately one of the most useful ones for the Internet is MP3 and it has copyright/license restriction that prohibit it from being included in the standard Audacity install.
