I have downloaded audacity, and I have opened a file from my digital recorder that shows up on the screen. However, when I hit play to listen to the recording, it goes through the entire 58 minute recording in 2 seconds. I can not figure out how to make the file play at "normal" speed so that I can edit it! PLEASE HELP!

You are almost certainly trying to import a file type that Audacity does not support. Audacity Supports WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC & MP2 in 1.3.

The screech thay you may hear is Audacity 1.2's inelegant way of telling you that it can't handle the file type you've given it - in 1.3.x a more appropriate and informative error message appears.

If this is the case you have two basic options:

1. find and use some converter software to convert your file to a type that Audacity supports

2. play the file in any music software that supports that particular file format and record it in Audacity.

We have a lot of users who say just that - but it always turns out when they examine the file in detail that it is not a proper WAV file.

It would probably help if you told the forum which digital recorder you are using.

Okay! I just recorded from media windows to audacity! Now I have one last question. the recording on the digital recorder is clear, but the recording on audacity contains a lot of static. How do I clean this up?
