1.2.6 on Vista 32 sp2 poof crash on launch

Audacity 1.2.6 was working fine on my Vista system on Toshiba laptop w/ 4Gb RAM... now it won't run any more. When I try to launch (as Admin or normal user) there is a quick dialog which disappears before I can read it, and the program won't start. I have been able to get the v.1.3.7 for XP Beta version to work [email protected]?#+$, but not the Vista 1.2.6 or later Beta 1.3.11. Although I uninstalled 1.2.6 using the Control Panel it still tries to load that version. Which keys do I need to delete with RegEdit? What else to get 1.2.6 or 1.3.11 to work on Vista SP2?
I'm also running SpyBot S&D as well as AVG9 and other standard M$ firewall, etc.
Thanks.

So that we are starting from a blank sheet;
Uninstall all versions of Audacity.
Go to C:Program Files and delete any Audacity folders (there should be at least 2 - one for Audacity 1.2.x and one for Audacity 1.3.x)

How comfortable are you with editing the Windows Registry? (you are aware that messing up the Windows registry can stop your computer from booting?)
If you are happy about editing the registry, just search the registry for keys containing the word "audacity" and delete the keys (always best to make a backup of the registry before editing it). Use F3 to continue the search.

When the search reaches the end, download the latest Audacity 1.3 installer for Windows and run it.

If you are not 100% happy about editing the Windows registry please post back and we can try an alternative approach.
