Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

play not working

Post by Laurie R » Tue Mar 09, 2010 11:54 am

Does anyone know why when I import a wav file and then try to play by hitting the play button on the toolbar, nothing happens. It's as if it's on permanent pause, even though the pause button hasn't been hit.

The spacebar will play a selection, too. Does that work?

Here's a six second sound clip of mine. Does that work in a fresh Audacity?

No, the space bar doesn't work and I couldn't play your file. It doesn't matter where I put the cursor, either. When I hit the play button, the cursor line just sits there, as if waiting for something.

I just tried rebooting my computer and now the play button works correctly in Audacity! So it's something wrong with my computer not the program, I guess.

If you are using a USB sound card (or USB turntable, USB microphone, or similar) then the problem is most likely that the USB device had not initialised correctly. This is not uncommon with USB devices, but at least rebooting usually sorts it out straight away if it happens.
