Audacity Recording-Time limits...

Post by thunder01 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 7:23 pm

Hi,

I'm involved in a Christian ministry in California, USA. I am currently using audacity to join audio from services to create tape series archives in single audio files.

I noticed that audacity has a 12 hr limit for importing audio. Is this caused by a system limit or is it a pc based limitation?

If it is system, is there a way to extend this time limit?

If it is a pc limitation, what would be the way to extend the time limit? RAM? HDD? Swap?

Thanks in advance,

The easiest way would be to create nice handy sized chunks, say 2 hours duration (you could name them by time and date for easy retrieval from the archive) and "zip" them into larger archives.
Note that if you save the files as mp3's, you will get very little compression from the zip archive (because the data is already compressed), but it is a handy way to bundle files together.

Note that FAT32 has a 4 GB file size limit.
