I have made my first recording of a 33 1/3 record, which was of Civil War music with bugle calls etc. (Circa 1960) and I could not set the volume level of my recording input. The wave form was, needless to say, preetty big!! My turntable is of IT manufacture and does not have a gain control. Any suggestions!

why couldnt you set it? what sliders did you try to use?

what do you mean big? big megabytes, big as in tall, big as in long??
otehr big??

describe exactly in detail what your set up was for the recording
and maybe we can be more specific with help

First of all many thanks for your assistance and my apologies for my inability to be more specific, but I'm new to this sort of thing.

I tried to adjust the VU meters following the AUDACITY directions, but the red color bars literally "hit" the end of the meter!

As for the waveform that is shown vertically, it literally fills the space.

Basically what is happening is that I am getting a clipped waveform despite adjusting the volume!!

I've adjusted all the volume settings on my PC (DELL, Windows XP) and still no joy!

Can you tell us the make and model no. of your turntable and how it is connected to your PC?

My turntable is a "it." (Innovative Technology) Model # ITUT-201SVR (ITUT-201), Serial #09105952WA and it is connected to my Dell XPS 400 via the USB port.

Page 20 and 21 contain information about setting the recording volume.

The "drivers" on that page are for Linux/Mac/Vista. Windows XP just uses the generic built in drivers so installing drivers is not necessary.

dell ??

does it use realtek ??

go to the realtek control page and lower the volume too
see if that helps

i presume you lowered it all the way in audacity already
