That is irrelevant. He is recording from a USB turntable. USB audio devices bypass the computer sound card. The "sound card" that is being used for recording (assuming that kurier44 has set it up according to the TT manual) is the USB device that is built into the turntable an NOT the computer sound card.

USB turntables do not respond to the volume controls in Audacity.

I followed the instructions for setting the volume as per pages 20 and 21 of the manual, but when I got to the AUDIO PROPERTIES INTERFACE and under SOUND RECORDING there was no AK5371 in the "drop-down" menu, just SIGMA TEL AUDIO as well as MuCAudio DEVICE's 0-15.

Did you say which version of Windows you are using? We need to ensure that Windows is recognising the turntable correctly, and how to do that depends on which operating system you are using.

I am using Windows XP Professional w/Service Pack 3. As for the McAudio Devices (Numbers listed 0 through 15) I have no idea what they are either. I tried to find a AK5371 driver to download from the internet, but drew a blank. I did contact Innovative Technologies to see if they could forward a driver to me, but no response as yet.

Try booting up your computer with the turntable disconnected and see if McAudio is still listed.

I have a USB microphone which does that. That is the device's name when it enters the computer. I plugged the microphone in and was expecting "LabTec" to show up and I got cryptic name and numbers like yours. The computer takes the name of the driver as the name of the device.

And yes, if your computer can't find it, that's the end of the show. Audacity only uses computer sound services, so you need to get the PC to work first.

I hope I'm not repeating stuff that has already been said, but this thread is getting a bit long and difficult to follow.

I've no idea what "McAudio" is so I don't know if it will be a problem, but as koz said, we need to try and get Windows to recognise the AK5371 or there's no show.

Connect the turntable to the computer and reboot. Find the "safely disconnect hardware" icon in the Taskbar notification area (near the time/date) and open it. All USB devices that are connected to the system should be listed. What do you see?

I connected the turntable to the computer and rebooted, and when I looked in the "safely disconnect hardware" taskbar all I found listed was my printer and a "USB Mass Storage!"

What's this? Do you have an external hard drive or a memory stick or something connected?
What exactly do you have connected by USB?
