Not able to use the timeshift tool, or cut......

Post by Fido Dido » Mon Jan 21, 2008 10:31 am

...This is the first time I've used audacity and I downloaded it and am using daniel james' tutorial to get my feet wet.

I'm only on page 8 and I've already encountered problems! (It's going to be a long day!)

When I select the timeshift tool it comes up with a stop symbol when I put the mouse over the track.

I also can't cut any audio, the button just doesn't respond.

I also don't have a button with the arrow dragging a small black box on a wire (the tool that would let you change levels - I'm guessing)

I am running on windows vista.

Any help would be greatfully recieved!

Audacity will not let you edit audio when it's Paused. You have to click Stop before making any edits. Is that the trouble you're having?

The Envelope tool (which allows you to dynamically change volume levels by drawing a "curve") button has two white arrows pointing towards the center of the button with a blue line running almost horizontally through the middle.

That Audacity tutorial was written for a much older version of the program. Some of it will be accurate, some of it will not be. This website has more up-to-date tutorials:

That seems to have done it!

Thanks for your help and I will try the tutorial you suggested.

Thanks again.
