Can't Record Audio.. Getting Messages About Latency?

I have used Audacity for awhile now. And I've never had this issue. I've actually never had an issue. Till recently. I have been using the new Beta one for a few months. And I had it working. I finally learned where to get my microphone to work in Vista since I was familiar only with XP up to this point. Because.. well.. it's more complicated I think. All was great. Until the other day. I tried to record... and the bar isn't moving. It's like just blinking in one place at the beginning. HELP! What did I do? Did I click something in Audacity or something? I uninstalled the Beta and put up the regular one.. and the problem on that one persisted. I really don't know what to do. Oh.. and something to mention it's been saying something about changing latency to zero or something. Oh.. and something else bizarre. I can listen to to audio files in Audacity... I just can't edit them.

Thanks,

Mark

Install Audacity 1.3.11 (if you don't currently have it installed)
Follow the steps here to reset the Audacity 1.3.11 preferences: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audac ... defaults_2

Check in the Windows Control Panel that your microphone is set as the default recording input.
Check the settings in Audacity "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices"
