After loading i get the following message when trying to record:
Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.
I read where someone else had the same problem and they were told to change under preferences, audio I/O, recording device to USB Audio CODEC. It does not give me that option. My options are Microsoft sound mapper-input, SoundMax digital audio, or AK5371. The manual says to have it on AK5371 and that is what I have done. My version is 1.2.6 and I am running Windows XP.
Thanks for any help
Forgot to say that I am just trying to record a record onto my computer using a turntable with USB output.

Re: error opening sound device
You can probably go a long way just by changing Audacity Preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Restart Audacity. Audacity 1.2 factory defaults sometimes have trouble connecting to external devices.

Thank you Koz.
Under default sample rate it already has 44100hz, and sample format I changed to 16bit, I don't know where to change to stereo but I think I remember doing that during the installation...? I restarted it and I get the same message. Audacity came with this turntable. I bought it so I could record record albums onto my computer and then to a disc. Any other suggestions? I really don't know what to do.

Re: error opening sound device
One of the problems is nobody uses Audacity 1/.2 any more. The only reason the elves keep it around is to answer questions from people still using Audacity 1.2. I can't stop my machine right not to go look, but start looking at the list of Audacity preferences. It's somewhere in the first three or four. Number of Channels: 2 (Stereo).
That must be selected correctly for the turntable to work.

Re: error opening sound device
We would like you to start using Audacity 1.3.11, but that's not going to help this problem. One at a time.
