Re: Unable to record
I agree with Jaycup. Realtek produces a great amount of soundcards with such problems. Business is business, but we'd want more quality for the paid money.
Re: Unable to record
Jaycup, You say your problem is fixed but on the screenshots you gave about recording sounds Stereo Mix is still greyed out.
You I guess it's only partially fixed?

Re: Unable to record
I recently purchased a Dell desktop with 64-bit Vista Premium. Audacity 1.2.6 would not record: I got a message telling me to "check the input device settings and the project sample rate."
I checked in Audacity>Edit>Preferences, & there were no Recording Device options listed at all.
After Googling all possible avenues for advice, I found an extremely simple solution… that actually works!
* Select Personalization from the Control Panel.
* Select Sounds
* Select the Recording tab.
* In my case, there were 3 options shown: Front Mic, Microphone, & Line In, all grayed out & showing as not plugged in.
* Right click on any one of them choose "show disabled devices."
* This brought up the Stereo Mix option.
* Select Stereo Mix, Choose Properties, and click Enable.
* Voila! Now it worked the same way as Wave Out Mix in Windows XP, & I could record streaming audio with no problems!
Hope this helps!

Re: Unable to record
Turbobob, Sorry for the delay in replying but was away on a long week-end and did not get back till last night (late). I am not really sure what your problem is or what OS you are using, I assume it is Windows XP as the problem does not exist in 'Vista' (see most recent posting on the Forum). Just to recap, my problem was all about not being able to record sound from the computer such as on stream radio or music being played via the speaker system. My problem was wholly associated with the Realtek Chip and MSI Motherboard as detailed at the beginning of my posting on the 'Forum'. If you read all the pages on the Forum and compare the screenshots with those of your own you should be able to find a solution but make sure you are comparing like with like, different sound chip/motherboard combinations might be a problem. I would not worry too much about options being greyed out as mine still are but nevertheless I can record sound. I was using Audacity software at the time but I now also use 'All Sound Recorder XP' and this is ok as well and I have the choice of MIc.; Line ; or Stereo Mix. These options are greyed out in the Master Volume Recording Options window but they do work.
I would recommend that you read all the pages on the Forum and if your problem is the same as mine's was and your Motherboard/Sound Chip combination is the same or similar then you should be able to solve the problem.

Post back again if you sttill have a problem and give a bit more detail and commnfirm the operating system.

Re: Unable to record
Ululator, this is an extract from page 1 of my posting to this Forum.
"I managed to get the problem sorted out on Windows Vista ultimate. the problem here was that by default Microsoft decided not to show the record options until something is plugged in e.g., microphone. This then shows up and right clicking on this icon gives access to other record options such as line in or stereo mix. these are disabled, again, by default and have to be 'enabled'. after doing this i found 'stereo mix' as an option in the Audacity Preferences/Input Window. I was then able to make recordings".
hope this is helpful
