Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

The Playback options are not a problem but basically I only activated the ones associated with my 2-Speaker, Subwoofer set-up.

I hope they are what you are looking for if there is something i might have omitted, let me know.

It took me a long time to figure out after loading all posible downloads. When you have the realtek control panel up on the screen you have to adjust the volume control using the knob as a control to turn up the volume. The plus and minus signs are just for letting you know which way to move the knob with your mouse. You are no longer using the microsoft volume controls for your recording. I could never get the recorder to record or even have it pick up any volume until I tried the above steps. I hope this helps you in some way shape or form.

Hi everybody. I must say, I have the same problem with the microphone. I want to use karaoke-program, but I can't sing, cause the microphone is not working. After first plugging the microphone I heard my voice in the speakers. But then I had to reinstall the audio drivers and since then I can't use the mic. :wall: The mic option in volume regulation is not active. I tried all the possible tricks. But the damn integrated sondcard is defending seriously... :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:
P.S. I'm have no need to use Audacity. I do not want to record the sound I just want to sing...

You will need to give a bit more information about your setup - are you using the exact same MSI motherboard that this topic is about? If so, then ALL the information that we have about setting up these drivers is present in this topic.

If you have a different motherboard, or a different sound chip / sound card driver, then you should start a new topic.

Be sure to give as full and clear a picture of your setup as possible. Include information about what the karaoke program is, what your hardware is, your operating system, what is plugged in where, etc.

Have you tried to get support from the makers of the karaoke program? That would be a better place to look as they will probably know much more about setting it up than anyone here.

The problem is not in the driver or the motherboard. The problem is in the integrated soundboard that doesn't allow to regulate the sound of the mic. I konow, yhat this is the mistake of the manufacturers of MSI. All the setup pictures are the same as in this topic. The karaoke program is named Karafun, but it doesn't influence on the system settings of the mic. My operating system is Win XP. I think that other information is unnececcary cuz it only removes us from the right decision.

you vcan enable the microphone by opening the installed Realtek Folder and find the file 'miccal.exe' click on this and follow any prompts and this will enable use of the microphone. It certainly worked for me. God luck.

Hi guys, Ive just bought a usb turntable which came with Audacity (ver 1.2.6) i first installed Audacity with no problem, then connected the deck up via the usb, a little box popped up in the bottom right saying hardware found and installed, but the input device box on the mixer bar is greyed out, i followed the instructions on the Audacity website and it says i need new (non window) drivers for the sound device! the driver update does nothing so i was wondering if you guys know exactly what i need to install and where to find it as id like to convert my vinyl into mp3 but without audacity working the deck it useless  any help would be great :) p.s i have windows xp with no extra sound upgrades to my pc, if you need anymore info ill be happy to find out so i can fix this 8-)

Go to "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and select the USB audio device as the recording device, and your soundcard as the playback device. If you need any more help please start a new topic.

@ linchuk - thanks for the additional information. your question is a lot more clear now :)
linchuk wrote:The problem is not in the driver or the motherboard. The problem is in the integrated soundboard that doesn't allow to regulate the sound of the mic.
The driver is the software that allows programs to interact with the hardware. The "integrated" sound card is part of your motherboard and comprises of the sound chip and associated circuitry. The control panel / mixer application shown in the pictures is essentially a graphical user interface (GUI) for the integrated soundcard driver. So yes the "problem is in the integrated soundboard that doesn't allow to regulate the sound of the mic", but that has everything to do with the driver and the motherboard.

Let's hope that fixes it :D

I'm glad I was able to help. I spent weeks (with great support from this Forum) trying to sort out my own recording problems re the 'Realtek' sound chip on my motherboard. It should not have to be like this and I blame 'Realtek' for not providing drivers that are up to the job.
