Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Is there a way

Post by earthshaker » Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:03 am

Every time I export an mp3 the tag data box pops up, when I am doing a lot of samples, this can be rather annoying.
Is there a way to turn this function off if not desired, then back on again if needed?

You've posted in the Audacity 1.2.x part of the forum, but I'm guessing that you are using a 1.3.x version?
Assuming I'm right;
Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export
and switch off "Show Metadata Editor prior to export "

No, that's it. As far as I'm aware Audacity 1.2.6 doesn't pop up the tag data editor and there is no setting for that.
Perhaps we're talking of different things - can you give me a step by step method to produce the problem?

Yes, that looks like the Audacity 1.2.x tag editor.
So how do I get it to "pop up" in an annoying manner?

Well try this, load up a hundred of so samples, dissect them to what you want, add effects etc, export each one as an mp3, oh by the way you need this done inside of an hour. That should do it!
All I want to do is make it go away when I don't need it, without having to click OK every time.

I'm not sure that you can make it go away in 1.2 - in 1.3 there is a preferences setting which enables you to turn it off.

It's been a long while since I used 1.2 for any real work - apart from answering forum queries - so my memory may not be coorrect.

However, I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to 1.3.11 - although it is labelled as Beta it is in fact pretty stable by now and often more stable than 1.2.x on more modern platforms. Plus you get a lot of extra useful features ...

Oh,I see (I think) - you're using "Export Multiple"?

This is one of the many improvements in Audacity 1.3.11 - In version 1.2.x this cannot be turned off. In version 1.3.11 you can turn it off in Preferences:
"Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export"

You can install both Audacity 1.2 and 1.3 safely, but you can only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.

We're after the program daddies to change the designation of the two Audacity versions. It's not a question of being "stable" or not. Audacity 1.2 will not run on modern Macs. There is only 1.3 for us. Audacity 1.2 has some problems in Vista and Win7 and it's so old, nobody is interested in fixing it.
