no sound on computer!
I downloaded audacity yesterday and now I can only hear sound through that! There's absolutely no sound for anything else like windows media player or when I start up my computer or watch vids on youtube. Help please!! I won't have internet access tomorrow or Sunday so it would be nice to have this fixed today if possible.

Double click on the audio mixer icon in the sys tray (probably looks like a loudspeaker, near to the clock).
Check that "Wave" and "Master" are not muted (the only thing that you may want muted for normal use is the microphone).

I'm having the same problem. I get no sound from any application on my computer, nothing through headphones or speakers. Nothing is muted, so that is not the problem.

Randy,
You've got the same symptom, not necessarily the same problem.
If you're not getting any sounds, then your sound card driver software isn't set up right, or your hardware has failed.
The only global controls that Audacity has access to are the input and output volume, so if those are turned up, then Audacity didn't cause your issue.
If you've recently plugged in any USB devices, then try unplugging them and re-booting. USB turntables are notorious for taking over as the default sound card (despite not being able to actually play sounds).
