I'm new to Audacity. I've recorded ok, but can't get Widows Media player to recognise it.
I've exported as WAV to no avail.
Also a lot of the menu bar is grey, the click option for instance.

Have you got your project rate set to 44.1kHz?
You should export as 44.1kHz PCM Stereo 16-bit (especially if you ever want to create music CDs from the WAV)s.
