New User Visual Problem

Post by SmokestackJones » Thu Jan 17, 2008 2:48 pm

Hi Audacity Team,

Another new user, I. I'm coming from using Cool Edit Pro on a regular basis and so far, I've had no big problems. It really is a well-made, easy to use program.

One thing I'm used to on CEP that I can't seem to get in Audacity is multi-track editing. I understand that the multi-track view is standard, but is there any way to zoom in and out to show more tracks? I do audio readings for Librivox, so that's normally not a problem, but sometimes I do audio editing for myself and want to be able to work with more than two on the screen at a time. Yes, I can scroll vertically, but it'd be a lot easier to see everything at once. I enclosed a screen grab off Coll Edit Pro to show you what I mean.

BTW, how many tracks does Audacity allow?

Thanks for the help.

Press [ctrl]+[shift]+f to vertically fit all the tracks in one window.

Personally I think this is less than ideal since it squashes all the controls on the left if you have more than a few tracks in your project.

The alternate way to do this is the drag the bottom of edge of each track, you can make them bigger and smaller dynamically.

Finally, there is no limit to the number of tracks you can have in a project. Your computer might not like it, but Audacity won't get in the way if you try to add 500 tracks to a project.
