Distortion / Inteference / Garbled Playback

Running Windows XP HE. Experiencing intermittent distortion/inteference/ and garbled sound during playback. When making a recording from vinyl or cassette, so the problem seems inherent on the comuter side. The problem will not be apparent for the first 4 or 5 tracks from an album, but will be on each track after that. Seems to get worse as recording time increases, but this may be a coincidence. Has anyone else encountered this?

Are you using a USB turntable? Are you joining the hundreds and hundreds of other people having trouble with USB turntables "after a while?"
I don't know that anybody has ever figured out why this happens, but it almost always happens with the USB turntables that everybody got for Christmas.

Hey thanks for the input. No USB turnatable here. I am using turntable hooked up to my main audio system. It is traditional turnatable (RCA style jacks) to pre amp, then amplifier.
