Using v. 1.2.6 on new WIndows XP Pro system. Audiophile 192 soundcard is indicated as source in all the appropriate Sounds and Audio Devices fields.
I attempt to record, but the tracks show no sound, though importing and playback of mp3s sound normal.
The little menu field in the Mixer toolbar that is supposed to say "What U Hear" is grayed out, inaccessible. I used earlier Audacity versions for several years with hardly a problem on my old Win2000Pro system. Don't understand why I can't get at that sound source selector.
In the section Mixer Toolbar Issues in AWiki I read the following technical comment, which may be germane, but ALSA and OSS are unfamiliar concepts.
"# You are using Audacity 1.2.6 and are selecting the ALSA device but don't have the necessary OSS emulation modules installed. "
Suggestions?
Recording function can't hear

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Recording function can't hear
Almost in the right place, but ALSA and OSS are to do with using a Linux operating system, not Windows.renlute wrote:In the section Mixer Toolbar Issues in AWiki I read the following technical comment, which may be germane, but ALSA and OSS are unfamiliar concepts.
For recording sounds playing on your computer, see the section here about "Using the Control Panel" http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
Not all of the information applies to you - look for the section about Windows XP.
