I already know that I'm an idiot, but why is installing the driver for my "simple" USB turntable so complicated? The turntable is an Anders-Nichloson Model TR-W155 USB turntable, complete with disc, cable, etc. I am college educated and even manged to finish medical school, and reasonably computer savvy but cannot make heads/tails of the instructions manual because what the manual says is supposed to appear on the monitor does not. When I went on the Audacity web site for help I saw very little except incredibly complicated indecipherable code and abbreviations. I just want to turn my old LPs into files in my Itunes. Can't we just all get along? BTW, I'm running Vista Home Basic on a Dell Vostro 220s. Thanks.

Because Microsoft have taken something that was really simple in XP and made it into something that gives Vista/Win 7 users headaches. I have every sympathy.

This method usually works:
1) Plug in the USB interface and reboot the computer.
2) click "Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound" (if you're using "Classic View" there's a direct link to "Sound" in the Control Panel), then click on the "Recording" tab.
3) Check that the USB device is enabled as a Recording device as indicated here (scroll down to the picture below the blue text box) http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
