New to digital recording

Post by Gothic » Fri Feb 12, 2010 10:46 am

Hi all.
I'm new to recording on computer and would be glad of any advice etc.
I am using XP, 2700 AMD, 2 gig memory, sata drive, yamaha 12/4 mixer, EMU 0404 sound card, sm59 mikes.

I can record ok, but when I try to put in extra tracks later, I get delay, like lag with the tracks lagginf behind the first ones by about 1/10 of a second. (we basically record banjo and guitar into 2 tracks, the I try to add bass or whatever later and it lags on playback) anybody help?

I love audacity but don't know what to do about this.

Try upgrading to the latest 1.3 version of Audacity. If you still have the problem you may need to set up "latency correction" http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... tency_Test (not available in 1.2.x)

That I will try.
The comp I am using is only to be used for audio recording - no internet conection, no anti virus, no word prossessing, nothing.
I suppose thats going to help as well.

Works well thank you. did it twice, and found
The adjustment was 144.4 milisecs.
seems a lot, but removes lag exactly to the dot.
