editing a drum track

Post by Dr Chickenbone » Thu Feb 11, 2010 10:29 pm

The drum machine I record with is part of a DigiTech effects pedal. I love the sound of the drums but they are not programmable. The drum loops are two measures long. What I want is the first half of measure one to repeat continually. I copy the first half of measure one(press and hold left mouse click) but when I try to paste it I can't get the timing right. The pasted section comes in too soon or too late.

Use the current version of Audacity 1.3
You can have both versions installed so there's no need to uninstall 1.2.6
One limitation - Audacity 1.2.6 cannot open projects that have been saved by Audacity 1.3.x

Assuming the rhythm is 4 beats to a measure -
Select from the exact beginning of the first beat of the second measure, up to the exact beginning of the third beat of the second measure.
Press Shift+Spacebar (loop play) to test that you have the selection just right. Adjust the selection if necessary.
Press Ctrl+I (split) then delete the first and last parts to leave the beats that you want.
Select "Repeat" from the Effects menu.
