Playback not working

Post by ruffedges » Thu Feb 11, 2010 12:47 am

I have been using Audacity successfully on this pc for a while and have made many multi track recordings. Today I wanted to record a rhythm track with a mic'd guitar amp - the recording was made but playback didn't work. The play button was depressed but the cursor on the track was stuck and sort of kept blinking at the beginning. Never happened before. Anyone have any ideas? I'm using a Dell Dimension 2100 with 1.6gig Celeron processor and 385MB of RAM. THANKS.

Sudden Computer Insanity can be caused by your hard drive filling up. Is it?

Audacity will not work into a badly fragmented hard drive.

Defrag
-- Right Click Start > Explore > Right Click Local Drive C: > Properties (Used, Remaining) > Tools > Error Checking & Defragmentation

The hard drive should never get over 90% full, and that's pushing it.

Hi Koz - thanks for the quick response. There's nothing on the hard drive - probably about 25% full. And there should be very little fragmenting - I blew the HD out and reinstalled windows a few months ago and there's really nothing on the machine but some music, previous audacity projects and mp3s. BUT, I shut down the computer and reopened later on the same day and audacity it was working fine. A glitch? Who knows? I'll see how it goes in the future. Thanks again!
