What's the possibility there are Asian characters in the filename and that's what is making everybody crazy?

It's Mandarin Chinese. I ran three files through the converter, imported them into audacity as raw data and one played perfectly. The wave form looked like the wave form I'm used to in all three cases.The two that didn't play were just a zip sound Something surprising is happening in that I have Vista and recently downloaded 3.11 and uninstalled 1.2.6 but some times the 1.2.6 comes back from somewhere.
The advanced information on one of the files was bit rate 96 kbps, length 00:00:03, type WAV audio file, size37.8 kb, attribute A

More red flags. If you have plain, normal, unexciting WAV files, you shouldn't need to Import them to Audacity. Importing is when you know you have file damage or files misformed and you hope to goodness Audacity will play them anyway.
This can also cause problems later when you start doing production on possibly unstable files.
If you have good files they should just Open in Audacity.
One played, what did the others do?
Audacity is a terrible converter. It's always the best idea to have stable music files already in the correct format before you even think about launching Audacity.
What is the work? Very few people need 96000 for a sample rate on music or other sound shows. Is this something other than music? We have posters doing science and research with Audacity and they depend on Audacity being able to manage "sound" way out of normal hearing range.

Koz, your post prompted me to use Audacity to download 10 files and use Audacity to open them. They all played perfectly.
