Analyzing Tracks

I'm helping my son with a research project to evaluate the response of various metal alloys on electric guitars. He has recorded two instruments using three different types of strings and needs a composite signal of five strings in each group. When he has all five tracks on the desktop and selected and uses the Analyze menu, will that be for just one track or does Audacity automatically give a composite graphic? It's just a matter if he can use the output directly or if he needs to output each and then import into Excel for further analysis.

Thanks in advance

When you select more than one track and use the Analyze -> Plot Spectrum option, Audacity ADDS the signals together. It does not average them.

That's a pretty cool experiment. Any chance you can link us to the results when it's done? Put it in "The Lounge" forum if you don't mind doing that.

Also be aware that the position that a string is plucked at affects the frequency response, so when you do this experiment you need to make sure the strings are being plucked at the same position.
