Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

transferring files

Post by F1shes » Sun Feb 07, 2010 6:16 pm

I'm using Audacity to transfer 78's to digital cleaning 'em up and then putting them on CD's. Problem that has recently started occurring is that after cleaning up a 78 -just 2 songs- and going to "export multiple" I can only export 1 of the two songs. I've tried re-recording the songs and re-exporting them, I've tried re-doing just the one problem song but nothing changes, I always get the can't export this song. I've already converted about 100 78s so I'm not a complete newby at this. Any suggestions. thx

Check that you have plenty of free disk space.
Check that you have not used any special characters in either the file names, the metadata or the labels. Stick with a to z, 0 to 9, underscore "_" and hyphen "-"

None of those are the problem, any other ideas.

Does the song play OK?
Are you able to Export the entire track?
What format are you exporting as?
Exactly which version of Audacity are you using? (see Help menu > About Audacity)
What operating system are you using?

The song plays perfectly & I'm trying to transfer the entire song. All I get is the msg that audacity can't export this song. I'm trying to export using WAV from Audacity 1.2.6 into Windows Media Player in Windows Vista.

It is recommended that you use Audacity 1.3.x (currently 1.3.11) with Vista, but let's see if we can get this file exported safely first.

Open the project in Audacity, then click on "File > New"
Go back to the first project and press Ctrl+A (select all)
Ctrl+C (copy)

Now go to the empty project and press Ctrl+V (paste).
Then "File > Export as WAV"
Ensure that you are exporting to a location on a local drive (not an external or network drive) that has sufficient space and that you have write permission.
