using a recently purchased ION turntable and version 1.2.6 audacity, i've transfered an album to file...done automatic division of tracks and exported multiple selection to windows media. i can listen to it there, but cannot burn it to disc. the program seems to complete but at the last second, i get a pop-up stating that (windows cannot burn the files to cd...verify that the disc is clean or change to another brand...or select slower recording speed). i've tried this to no avail. am i missing something?

Maybe not. Why do you think your disk burner works? Were you able to burn a music CD last week from any kind of music from anywhere?

Do you have burning software other than Windows Media? I don't think it's a music or Digital Rights problem. I think Windows Media can't blast its laser past all the dog hairs in there. Did you actually go out to Staples or Office Depot and buy a different brand CD blank? I like to do testing on Sony disks and then maybe branch out to other manufacturers later. We tend to not like Maxell disks.

MANY THANKS!!!!!!! your tip about windows media was right on. i now have a music disc, but must have made a mistake on separating the tracks since all songs recorded to one track. as i stated, i used the automatic feature. would it be better to divide tracks manually?

I would favour manually - Audacity is capble of finding "false gaps" and introducing more tracks than required.

Also doing it manually gives you a chance to clean up the inter-track gaps:
a) they may be noisy and you may want to Silece them with Edit>Silence (or CTRL+L)
b) they may be too long or too short
c) you may want to fade-in/fade-out

It appears I'm having the same problem vida experienced. I have recorded from some old cassette tapes. But they burn to a CD as single track. How, then, do you manually separate each song into a separate track? Have looked in the help file (Audacity software) as well as several pages of the downloadable PDF manual -- but unable to find the advice I need. Would appreciate input from anyone out there.

All you need to do is to place a label at each track break - use the Ctrl-B shortcut - and don't forget to place a label right at the beginning for the first track.

Then use Audacity's Export Multiple command (available from the File drop-down) to export a multiple set of WAVs, MP3s or whatever.
