exported mp3 file that won't play

Hi,

I've successfully managed to record from cassette onto the audacity program and after exporting the finished track to an mp3 file, when going to play it on windows media player or any player for that matter, the track will visibly progress as the song plays but there would be no sound. I've tried exporting to wav as well and it still produces the same result--none! The files play fine on the audacity program but it's only after export do they lose their sound. Please help!

Are you using a cassette player that's connected to the computer via USB?

When you connect a USB device, the computer hands over the sound pathways, in both directions, to the USB device, so it is trying to play back through the cassette player.

In Windows Control Panel > Sounds and Audio > Audio tab, select your computer's sound card as the default playback device.

In addition to the ppost from Irish, do the MP3 files play through Audacity if you Import them back in?
What settings do you have in "Edit menu > Preferences > Quality"?
