Two basic questions have arisen after 2 days of tinkering (more may follow):
- How do I expand the view of the waveform so that it is not so minimized that i can't discern the silences? Using the magnifying glass on the left hand ruler will only expand so much. Is that the limit? To facilitate this i have had to set the view to ""fit vertically".
- Recent topic clarified for me which file to open (*.aup) when working on an file not yet converted to wav or mp3. But when i open the aup file, i can't find the track i was working on. It just is a blank format ready to record another track.

Thanks for the help. Excited about the prospect of converting a lot of old vinyl.

You need to zoom in - either use the magniying glass icon in the zoom toolbar (the one with the + sign) or use View>Zoom IN (or the CTRL+1 shortcut). Zooming in/out is a very useful facility in Audacity.

It will be where you told Audacity to file it and you should open it from there. When you Save or Save As a project Audacity requests a filestore directory location.

Try searching on your hard disk for *.aup files.

Or try File>Open>Recent Files inAudacity - it should track the last 9 or so projects that you have had open

BTW: if you are going to be converting a lot of vinyl, it will help you a lot if you are disciplined with your filing structure. Design how you are going to structure your music file archive before you start - unless that is you are just planning to burn it all out to CDs as you go.

And to lift a quote from Koz on another thread: "..... you need to be really careful how you save your music work. Always export a finished show as a WAV file and keep that as the archive. Do not try to save a Project. Projects are not single files. They are insanely complicated, multi-file clouds and if you do anything wrong or leave out any of the pieces, your project will crash."
