Audacity not loading with VST enabler (Fruity Loops problem)

Hi!

I've been using Audacity for a while and it's a great tool, especially for amateurs like me. I use a demo version of Fruity Loops to write my percusions, then I export them to mp3 or wav and mix in Audacity. I never had a problem, until today, right after I installed the VST enabler. When I tried to open Audacity, a pop up window from Fruity Loops "inviting" me to registrate the software came up, and after closing it Audacity dindn't load. I tried several times, rebooted my computer, but nothing happened. Fortunately, unistalling the VST enabler solved this problem, but I want to use this plugins, and I find very strange that Fruity Loops is interfiering this way with Audacity...

Please someone help me!

Homero.

The VST enabler has serious issues because of licensing restrictions. If Audacity were allowed to give you full VST support it would be implemented in a second. But that's not the case, so Audacity is stuck with very low-level support.

I'm surprised that Fruity Loops is complaining, but I don't think there's a way to fix it until Steinburg changes their licensing policy.

There's a similar problem with Steinburg relating to ASIO support.

Fruityloops, as you probably know, contains a number of VST plugins. If you have the VST enabler installed in Audacity, it will try and load all the VST plugins that it can find.

Fruityloops (and many other makers of commercial software) use various kinds of "security protections" to prevent you from running their software without a valid licence. Even if the Fruityloops VST effects are within the "trial period", the limited VST support in Audacity may not correctly inform the plugin that it is being accessed as a trial. Thus the plugin will refuse to load (this will also happen if the trial period has expired).

So then you have the situation that Audacity will not continue to load until the VST plugin has loaded, but the VST plugin says "No".

Several of the Fruityloops plugins will work with Audacity, but I guess the problem here is that the "trial expiry" mechanism is being triggered. Assuming that the trial has not expired, I guess the solution is to only have Fruityloops, or the VST enabler, installed at any one time.

If you are thinking of buying the full version of Fruityloops, it may be worth asking them if it is compatible with Audacity.

Thanks!

That's not very good news, I guess buying FL is the only way to solve the problem.
