How do I combine little files on a CD into a big file?

Post by kantl » Wed Feb 03, 2010 6:19 pm

I have a CD with many little folders and it will only play one folder at a time for a couple of seconds. How do I combine the folders so it plays as one big file?

What's the rest of the story? Where did this CD come from? What are you trying to play it on?

What he said, plus do they play at the right speed? Can you tell what kind of sound files they are?

Right-Click on a sound file > Properties > Extra or Advanced.

They play at the right speed. The files are AU Format Sound. The files are of a recording that has been split into many ten second clips. I am trying to play it on Audacity because I can not open them with Windows Media Player. In addition to ah creating one larger file out of the many large ones would you know how to convert these into a more common audio file format?
Also the recordings are fuzzy and are not the highest quality audio, with a lot of background noise. Does audacity have the capability of allowing me to reduce the background noise so it is easier to hear?
Thank you very much for your help.

There is an audio format that has the extension ".au" but this extension is also used for Audacity data files. The Audacity data files are closely related to .au sound files, but are not the same. If these files are the result of recording in Audacity, then I think you are getting confused between "Saving Audacity Projects" and "Exporting audio files". (this is the No# 1 most common mistake that we see on the forum)

This should explain about Audacity Projects: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/File_Management_Tips

To get an ordinary audio file from Audacity - use "Export".
