Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

AUP files won't open

Post by Take_Warning » Sun Jan 06, 2008 2:31 pm

I have the newest version of Audacity (1.3.6) and when I try to open an .aup file I made on another computer it won't open. When I did the install I unchecked "Associate Audacity Project files" because if it was checked it couldn't create the registry entries because access was denied. I had an older version but I uninstalled(I think it was before the current stable version) that so I could use the new one. What is happening and how can I fix this?

did you take the associated data folder (for the .aup) and all the little .au files that it contains, over to the other computer - if not it won't work.

The .aup file contains no audio itself (that's all in the little .au files) - the .aup is just a set of instructions and pointers to tell Audacity how to deal with the .au files.

It's actually worse than that. Projects aren't "things," they're clouds and you have to move the whole cloud; the AUP file, the _DATA folder and all the little AU files inside, the original clips and the original data and folder structure.

Leave anything out and something won't work right.

....AUP is a text file. Open it up in any plain text editor or word processor. If you start seeing entries like this:

aliasfile='/Users/koz/Desktop/piano2.wav'

That's Audacity looking in that folder for that sound file (an original capture performance in that case). If it can't find either the path, the folder, or the file, guess what? You lose on Sports Call.

Did you really mean to move a simple, stand-alone WAV file? You can get that with the Export functions in your original timeline.
