Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I think I may have solved it......my trusted and much loved B & O stereo is playing up. My wife discovered this. All cd's prior to these new burns play without a problem, the new burns do not. It looks as though a new cd player is on the horizon, which is a shame as I inherited the B & O from my late father-in-law, much sentiment involved.

Just did the Beatles 'Revolver' and after a bit of fiddling plays perfect.

Audacity and the gadget seem to do it!

Many, many thanks for the time given to my problem.

I have taken your advice and it was very helpful.

Kind regards.

Norman.

Norman, glad you finally ifentified the problem and got it all workijng. If you are happy with that USB device, maybe you would care to post your review in the thread I pointed you to before http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477 in the format that it requests.

Not tempted to go out and buy last year's re-mastered CD? I haven't, but then in our house we already have 4 copies my vinyl and my CD plus my wife's vinyl and her CD ...

Have fun with your conversion project.

BTW you may find this thread useful if you find you have albums with lots of clicks & pops: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477 - not free, but well worth it IMHO

All appears as it should be.

Happy to do review, will give it a few days and ensure that it continues to perform. Audacity is all I hoped for...lots of Youtube videos that really show how it can be used.

Once again many thanks...

I have learnt a lot.

There's some good video tutorials on YouTube, but I've also seen several that have serious inaccuracies or are putting forward bad/misinformed advice. The Audacity manual and the Audacity wiki are probably the closest there is to "definitive" information, particularly for the 1.3.x version.

1.3.11 is a very worthwhile upgrade if you are still on the old 1.2.6 - you don't need to uninstall 1.2.6 if you just want to try out 1.3. The limitations are that you cannot run both versions simultaneously, and that Audacity 1.2.6 can not open projects that have been saved by Audacity 1.3.

I thought an update might lead me in to asking a question unrelated to Audacity?

If this is the wrong place to ask, apologies! I thought the members using this forum might well have the knowledge that I lack.

Really like Audacity and the CDburnerXP. Audacity does just what I want, snipping out bits and discarding unwanted tracks.

CDburnerXP works faultlessly, much better than WMP...WMP just would not burn to the same disks that I use in CDburnerXP.

My next problem is converting video files!

We used my wife's Canon Ixus camera in Singapore to video our trip to visit our daughter. Not a proper video camera so I cannot plug it directly into the DVD recorder.

The files are recorded as MVI files. I can burn them to disks, but only as MVI.....any ideas as to how I can convert them to DVD and record them on my DVD recorder.

I won't be upset if the MVI question is pulled...thought it was worth asking.

Kind regards.

For video conversion I use a little gadget called the Pinnacle Video Transfer. This is a little device which connects to any video source via either Composite Video-in plus the two audio channels (using RCA plugs) - or via S-Video-in. It outputs to a USB disk or clip drive (I Use an 8gb clip drive) in H.264 MPEG4 format. This file I then transfer to my PC for editing (I use Nero-9). The device works best if the clip drive or disk is completely cleared prior to each new recording.

It has worked a treat for me transferring my VHS tapes to DVD and for capturing video from recorded on my PVR.

BTW the device is good - but Pinnacle's support is poor - you won't get help there like you do here with Audacity ...

SUPER by erightsoft can convert many video formats as well as audio formats - I don't know if it supports MVI files, but it's a free program so it's worth a try. One downside with SUPER is that you have to jump through a lot of hoops (a link jungle) to download it, but it's worth the effort.

Thanks for the replies.

The Pinnacle was too expensive for the amount of video to be transferred.

Gave up on the free option, as was said 'lots of hoops to jump through'....too many! I lost the will to live after so many screens.

I did hope that there was something as good as Audacity about, too much to hope for.

I am progressing well with the transfer of vinyl to cd...I can't believe how well Audacity does the job.

Kind regards.
