Changing Bass

Post by nikRbokR » Mon Dec 31, 2007 1:34 am

I am trying to record something, but the bass level is way to high. How can I change this? :?:

What source are you recording from? Generally you can't change the bass level you are recording unless you can control this in the source itself. But check you project rate bottom left of the Audacity screen is 44100 Hz. If it is lower that will stop you capturing the higher frequencies.

Let me predict the past. You walked into your favorite club and tried to record a performance.

That's really hard to do.

If it didn't overload your recording device, you may be able to get away with the Equalizer tool.

Like this...

...except instead of putting a dip in the middle like that, you're going to select a point around 200 Hz or so and droop everything below--to the left of that. It's all click and pull.

Remember, none of the tools work until you select some audio. Do the experimentation on a small clip until you get the hang of it.

If you have crunchy or buzzy audio, chances are you overloaded something and you're dead. There are no tools to bring that back.

When it's not midnight (Pacific) I'll post some tricks to do this live capture session. They're not cheap.

Actually, I'm just recording audio from YouTube ;) The song however sounds okay on YouTube, but the bass comes much higher on Audacity. I have it at the default number of Hz, not sure what it wuz so i didn't mess w/ it.

<<<Actually, I'm just recording audio from YouTube >>>

We need lots more English words. How are you recording from YouTube? Mix-Out from the sound panel, cable between Line-In and Line-Out? Total Recorder or other capture software? We're not looking over your shoulder and unlike the Mac forum, the Windows people have hundreds of variations of hardware and software, each with their own failures.
