Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

can't find the mp3 I exported

Post by jolan » Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:01 am

Hi,
I'm sure the question is already asked. Anyhow I do ask again since I undurstand best when I tell it in my own words and add that I' m pretty simple and uneducated in software matters.
I have downloaded LAME and do the thing with exporting. the first time I found Lame back in de documents and settings.
Now.....Where... can I find the MP3 file back??
Please help me. I've promised a bunch of people this MP3 since they told me it is so simple with audacity... I'm sure it is!
But not yet for me.
Thanks a bunch!

Probably the simplest way to find it is to go through the motions of exporting another file:

Start Audacity.
Click Project > New Audio Track (This will be an empty track, but we need it so Audacity thinks there is something to export)
Click File > Export as MP3
You will get a window titled "Save MP3 File as", and with a bit of luck this will be pointing to where you saved the last MP3.
At the top of the window there is a drop-down box. Click on it and it will show you where in your folder structure you are saving the file. Make a note of where that is.
Close Audacity, and use Windows Explorer to get to the location where your file is.

Unless you changed it, Windows is likely to hide the .mp3 part of the filename and further, may tell you that it's a Windows Media file. It makes Windows so darn much fun to get lost in.
