When I use a Sure 58 using MXL XLR to USB converter it shuts down the playback of the recorded track. So when I attempt to record multiple tracks I can't hear the previous.???? Please help.

Go into the Windows Control Panel.
Windows has a bad habit of passing the entire sound system to the USB device, which is pretty stupid if it's a microphone or turntable as these are not capable of playback.
Find the sounds/audio devices bit in the Windows Control Panel and set your sound card as the playback device.
