2nd track is recording the 1st track
Having recently downloaded Audacity again after changing my computer, I'm coming across a problem which I didn't have before. I've been recording some guitar and vocals and now, when I want to record the 2nd track, it is also recording the 1st track onto the 2nd. I've tried various adjustments in the sound control of the computer but so far this hasn't worked. My microphone is plugged into the line in input at the back of the computer which does work for recording. Also the input volume meter in Audacity is set to maximum and won't adjust and the field to the right for choosing microphone, line in etc. is gray. Any help and advice would be appreciated. My computer is an HP Media Center PC running on Windows XP.

This happens if you like to record Internet shows and forget to turn off Mix-Out. With Mix-Out running, Audacity will record the show you're trying to produce plus everything the computer is doing at that minute. This can either produce echoes or double the volume you're expecting, or tracks in the wrong place.
This is the piece on how to record internet audio. This should give you an idea where the controls are.
