How to get Track Names onto iPod ?
I'm a new user. Anyone know how to input track names so that the songs are listed by name in iTunes/iPod ? Tried various ways but the tracks always come in named S-1, S-2 S-3 etc or similar numbering.

Re: How to get Track Names onto iPod ?
Once you have recorded the project and done any clean-up or repairs that you want, then label each track use the shortcut Ctrl-B to create the label. Don't forget to label the first track right at the beginning. Type the text of the trackname into each label. Then you can use the Export Multiple feature in Audacity to export a set of files one per track.
WAV files do not carry ID tags, MP3 files do. So if you want tracknames carried forward in tags you will need to export as MP3 - you are probably doing this anyway to save space With the MP3 export, track numbers will be created and the tagging information will carry through (except the year - IIRC this is a known bug) - the track-names are taken from your track labels and when you initiate the Multiple MP3 export you will be asked to provide the album title and artist - this will carry through to the ID tag for each track.
Then just import the tracks into your iTunes library and synch your iPod.
BTW the editing of labels is MUCH easier in the Beta 1.3.x version of Audacity - in 1.2 you have to erase the whole label a character t a time starting from the right and then re-type.

Re: How to get Track Names onto iPod ?
Thanks that helps but I'm not quite there yet - in a multiple export I am only getting 1 or 2 tracks successfully exported with the track labels I've created. The other labels are being exported as separate tracks of 1kb ! I'm obviously doing something wrong? Have you had a similar problem?

Re: How to get Track Names onto iPod ?
The only problems taht I have had is when I used special characters like / in the trackname. But this caused the multiple export to abort at that point. No I've never had little 1kb files like that.

Re: How to get Track Names onto iPod ?
Thanks. Cracked it now. To make it work I found I had to do the track division manually and type in the track name at the the start of each track at the SAME TIME. Previously I had used the auto division into tracks, then went back to add the track names. It seems that if you are not absolutely precise in putting the track name exactly on the previously created start point then on export the names don't come with the track, the label is then seen as a separate piece of text which is exported separately as a 1kb file.

Re: How to get Track Names onto iPod ?
Harry, glad you got it sorted. You will find that in 1.3.x (and thus presumably in 1.4 when it comes) label handling is much improved.
