playing a track independently

My question may sound dramatically silly, but is it possible to play back a track without the system playing all the tracks together?

Yes - you can use the Mute button in Track Control Panels to mute the tracks you don't want to hear.
Or you can use the Solo button in the Track Control Panel to select a single track to play
