I was working on a project today. Saved it. Then I renamed it outside of Audacity (oops, didn't know this was a no-no until now). But this can be corrected, yes? My main problem is the data file is now missing. There's no file whatsoever under the original name, or any other name for that matter. Where did it go? Can I retrieve it somehow?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Data file disappeared
The data file was never there. Audacity creates a folder or directory called something_data. "something" is the name of your show. And yes, you can certainly put everything back exactly the way it was and the show should open just fine.
If you just can't remember what the original name was, you can open the AUP file in Notepad and read through the file for clues.

Re: Data file disappeared
Did you rename the .aup file? Or did you rename the _data folder?
Audacity projects consist of two parts. MyProject.aup (a document) and MyProject_data (a folder).
If you renamed the .aup file, I can't understand how it would just disappear. Can you do a search for the new name?
If you renamed the _data folder, you need to change it back to exactly what is was before, and leave it in exactly the same location.
If you find the .aup file, open it and Audacity complains about missing blockfiles, close without saving changes and report back here - we can probably help you get your project back.

Re: Data file disappeared
My client sent me an .aup file, but didn't include the _data folder. Is this something they can send me via email? They did not burn it to the CD.
Re: Data file disappeared
Not really. Audacity projects are usually very large and are not easy to transport. Do you really need the Audacity project or could they just Export an MP3 and send you that?proscommas wrote:Is this something they can send me via email?

Re: Data file disappeared
They're usually about 20 MB when they remember to export to mp3. I've already sent them an email and asked them to export to mp3. That's the normal format they send me. Thanks.
