Record show only Left channel
Hi,
I'm copying LPs, and the level meter shows that only the 'L' channel is recording. Is this normal?
Thanks,
John

Re: Record show only Left channel
It would be good to know a little more about your system since that kind of problem is caused by different things depending on which turntable you bought.
Audacity wakes up from first birthday in Mono--single audio channel. Did you change that in the Audacity Preferences before you started?
(From memory now) Preferences > Audio I/O > Recording > 2CH (Stereo).
Sometimes you need to restart Audacity for the settings to work.

cmordr,
Do you perchance have something plugged into the Mic In port? That's a mono input.
If that's not the case then we need to know how everything is plugged together and what you're trying to record.

Re: Record show only Left channel
I had a similar problem and traced it to a loose connection in the phono cartridge. Have you checked that there is output from the turntable on both channels by unplugging the outputs one at a time?
Re: Record show only Left channel
Hi,
One of my problems was that the channel selector (i.e. Am, Fm, phono, or Cd) on my amp was not making good contact. Working the selector back and forth fixed that problem.

Re: Record show only Left channel
Problem solved! I had a spare sound card, so in device manager, i disabled the integral sound card, installed the spare sound card. The line-in connection is now stereo. All is good.
Thank you folks for your quick responses and good suggestions. One suggestion mentioned the mic jack, which was helpful. I used the mic jack to prove that a left and right signal was indeed being sent, although dual mono, which helped me narrow my trouble shooting.
