Toggling between two tracks

I have two tracks with the exact same music, but different singer, sincronized in Audacity. I intended to make a song which alternated verses between the two singers.

At first, i expected to do so with the 'Solo' button. Unfortunately, clicking one Solo button does not deactivate the other Solo buttons.

An alternative i tried is to play both tracks simultaneously, and mark verse transitions with labels. Then i could use those labels to silence one track at a time, and attain the desired effect. However, once i click a label BOTH tracks are selected, and i am unable to separate only one to silence it

Any other ideas of how i could do this? I remember seeing somewhere a panel where i could control the volume of each track on time, but i could not find it, i might be mistaken.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

I think that you may be able to control this easiest by using the Envelope tool (the icon with two triangles pointing to a central dot with a blue line passing through). Control of this tool is a little tricky at first - but worth learning.

This should let you control the volume of parts of each track independently - and without losing audio data, so you can then re-tweak at a later time if required.

And don't forget to click back on the normal cursor tool icon (the one that looks like a capital I) after you've finished with the envelope.
